The Super Powered Activated Charcoal Cleanser

Skin

activated charcoal 2At The Australian Natural Soap Company we are all about using the power of nature to pamper, clean and love our skin, and what better way than with our super popular Activated Charcoal Soap!

Why we love it!

How can one soap do so much? Our exfoliating facial cleansing soap draws toxins from deep in the pores for a sparkly clean feel, while soothing and healing the skin. Ideal for combination and acne prone skin and a must have for stubborn blackheads! If that’s not enough, Activated Charcoal Soap is also antibacterial therefore awesome at killing odour at the same time as softening and conditioning your skin.

So, how does activated charcoal work?

Activated Charcoal works by trapping toxins in its minuscule pores, absorbing them and removing them from your skin, bye-bye imperfections!

How do I use it?

For gentle use as a cleanser it is recommended to lather the soap in your hands, then gently massage into the skin. Double trouble, when the bar is used directly on the face is acts as an exfoliator.

The Australian Natural Soap Company’s Activated Charcoal Soap Can be purchased ONLINE or at one of our AWESOME STORES.

Keeping Your Winter Skin Hydrated.

Skin, Uncategorized

If you are finding that the cooler seasons suck your skin dry of moisture, you are not alone! We all get the winter skin blues and experience the tight, flaky dryness that comes with the season. During winter the humidity levels drop, meaning the moisture from your skin evaporates for more quickly – especially when exposed to windy conditions! Indoor heating and long, hot showers may feel like blissful escapes from the cold, but they, too, are actually stripping your skin and mucous membranes of their good oils! So, while there is little chance at avoiding these conditions (unless you can afford a three month holiday every year… in which case, avoid away!), you can at least protect yourself from the worst of it by following these few simple steps.

  1. Scrub away the dead skin cells. When we go from heated rooms to freezing outdoors, our skin becomes dehydrated and flakey. Since we are usually covered from head to toe in clothing to stay warm, the dead skin cells build up and are trapped underneath. If you have oily skin you could scrub once or twice a week, if you have dry skin you might stretch it out to every fortnight. Our Pharmaoil scrub is made with sea salt and plant oils which work to really buff the skin smooth and hydrate it at the same time.
  2. Cleanse gently. Since winter tends to leave us dry, you don’t want to over clean your skin and make the problem worse by removing the good, natural oils and throwing out the balance. We highly recommend the Absolute Avocado soap, which has more oil than any of our other soaps, to softly pull away dirt, sweat and makeup. Avocado is also naturally antibacterial, so it’s a good choice for many skin conditions.
  3. Hydrate… immediately. Straight after you bathe your pores are open and your skin is supple. This is the prime time to moisturise because it will be absorbed far more deeply than if you applied it to dry skin. For this reason, it’s important to be wary of what ingredients you are applying to your skin in this time frame. Our Pharmaoil Skin Therapy is made of 100% pure plant oils and does not contain any preservatives or additives, so you can use as much as you like without a worry! Your skin will love you for the healthy serving of essential fatty acids and vitamin E.
  4. Drink up. Nothing will save you from the dryness more than drinking lots of water! We know it’s a lot harder to keep up with when it’s cold than when it’s hot and you’re actually thirsty, but this will be the key factor in bright, radiant skin all year round. Also aim to eat more foods that contain “good fats”, especially omega 3 fatty acids, to keep your skin cells soft and flexible!

5 Ways To Convert A Soap Dodger

Skin, Uncategorized

Soap dodgers. Whether you are one, you know one or you are trying to raise one… We get it. After switching over to all natural skin care, the thought of using commercial products makes us cringe! More often than not they dry out your skin and cause uncomfortable irritation. Soap is one the worst culprits – so it’s no wonder that people are trying to dodge it!

We often hear from customers that their children don’t like washing with soap (you’re not alone!) so we thought we would write up some helpful suggestions for you on how to convert them to the clean team!

  1. Buy natural soap. In case you missed that point, using only natural ingredients on the skin will greatly reduce the occurrence of irritation and makes for a much more pleasant experience – for us and for the planet! If your child is a conscious consumer at all, perhaps they can be swayed by knowing they are supporting a good cause like The Orangutan Project by using our tester soaps or our Donation Soap.
  2. Fun (but safe) scents and colours. We have a few deliciously scented soaps that are a big hit with kids such as lemon & lime, liquorice allsorts, spearmint and cinnamon which are all scented with pure essential oils instead of artificial fragrances, which are known skin irritants. We also have some brightly coloured soaps like the pink clay, coloured only by natural clay with a yummy lemongrass scent, and the bright green of our avocado soap which is unscented, so it’s perfect for those who are dodging strong smells!
  3. Let them buy their own soap. Bring them into the store and let them wander around for a good sniff! There are around 50 types of soap to choose from and kids love to explore the different types and find their personal favourite. Giving them the money to pay for it also enforces that it is their special soap and they will feel good about taking it home to use it.
  4. Liquid soap. Maybe they don’t like holding the slippery bars of soap and simply prefer something they can’t drop! Use it straight from the hands or pump some onto a cloth or loofah to create a more satisfying lather. We have four types of liquid soaps, including the warming scent of cinnamon & spearmint, and the fresh minty scent of lavender, eucalyptus & peppermint.
  5. Let boys be boys. Beer soap is a winner for teenage boys who can’t yet drink the stuff, but get a kick out of knowing they are using it to get clean! Beer is actually a great natural ingredient and makes a very gentle, softening soap (just don’t tell them that!).

We believe everyone can become a soap lover if they just try the right soap. Bathing should be a good experience, we do it every day, after all! So let’s help those soap dodgers find their happy place in the shower – shop natural soap now at theansc.com.au

Leadbeater’s Possum Awareness Week

donations, ethics, Uncategorized
Monday March 28th until Sunday 3rd April 2016 is the Leadbeater’s Possum awareness week – a time for learning and sharing about this precious endangered species.

The tiny Leadbeater’s Possum was presumed extinct by 1960, simply because none had been seen for 50 years. Then, in 1961, a single possum was rediscovered by naturalist Eric Wilkinson near Marysville, 90 minutes east of Melbourne – a long way from it’s original habitat in Gippsland! In 1968 it was made the official faunal emblem of Victoria.   Also known as Fairy Possum, the Leadbeater’s Possum is a tiny, nocturnal creature with large eyes and a long tail measuring around 10 to 15cm in length. It requires old growth eucalypt trees with established hollows for its home.

Due to the effects of logging and the Black Saturday bush fires, much of the Possums natural habitat has been lost. With numbers as low as 1500, they have been declared as critically endangered.

How you can help them:

  • Buy some Donation Soap from us – Profits go to the Friends of Leadbeater’s Possum inc. who are a team of volunteers working hard at preserving and protecting our little furry friends. You can also join them to help out on one of their projects.

Happy Leadbeater’s Possum awareness week!

Donation Soap – For a Feel Good Clean

business, donations, ethics, Uncategorized

Here at The Australian Natural Soap Company we believe in giving back to the community. We are a small growing business ourselves and we understand the importance of receiving support and encouragement from those around us, so we came up with a concept that allows us to do that kindness for others.

With the release of our Donation Soap in late 2015 came the opportunity to raise awareness and funding for not-for-profit organizations that we see as the positive change makers of the modern world. We are passionate about doing the right thing when it comes to environmental and animal welfare issues, so these are the kind of groups we had in mind to work with.

Our first partnership for this project was a small team of dedicated volunteers who run the Goongerah Wombat Orphanage in Far East Gippsland.

Brians Burrow

Wombats are one of the beautiful Australian animals that fall victim to our roads all too often. Many drivers do not pay enough attention on the roads that pass through bush land that is home to many native creatures, resulting in unfortunate deaths and injuries of our treasured wildlife.

The Goongerah Wombat Orphanage is devoted to saving the lives of the injured and orphaned wombats that survive these accidents. Their work is endless and tiresome, but is fuelled by love and passion. The care of furry orphans from the wild entails unique methods for providing them with the food, bedding and medicine that they need in their vulnerable state of separation from the pouch.

Baby Wombats

Sometimes there are orphans so young they barely have fur, so it really is like taking in a baby! At this age they require very regular feeding and temperature control, which means many sleepless nights and constant attention from the carers. The milk formula that sustains the little ones is about $150 per five kilos. As they grow they are introduced to oats and sweet potatoes, which become their staple diet along with munching on grass.
They start out sleeping in handmade pouches until they are old enough to begin the move outside where bales of hay are provided for the big kids and any grown ups that have been released who return now and then when times are tough.
So, what these carers have taken on is months of expensive milk formula per orphan and maybe years of oats and vegetables to fill the always hungry wombat bellies, plus bedding and vet bills when health issues arise – all out of their own pocket!

Wombats

So that, friends, is why we chose to donate to the Goongerah Wombat Orphanage and we are proud to have raised $336 through the sales of our Donation Soap in store and online. With many thanks from the GWO, and us, we hope that you will continue to support our endeavour to raise awareness and funding for those who are courageous enough to bring positive change into the world around them.

New Year Cleanse – Not just for your Liver!

Skin

We’ve all heard the common New Year resolutions time and time again about eating cleaner, getting fitter and being healthier – especially after a festive season abundant in rich food and celebratory drinks! As great as these goals may be, they are often focused on cleansing our internal organs while forgetting the biggest and most absorbent organ of them all… our skin!

During our lives we experiment with so many health and beauty products in an attempt to find what works best for our skin, and also because clever marketing and media always have us wanting the next best thing in our ever growing collection. Now, I’d like to tell you that there’s no harm in trying them all but unfortunately most commercial products are filled with synthetic ingredients that are absorbed through your skin and are certainly not doing you any good!

Think about how many beauty products you expose yourself to every day. Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, moisturizer, deodorant, makeup, hair products… Have you looked at their ingredient labels? Do you know what all of those things are? No? Me neither. And I’m not so sure that I want to know!

So, how does this sound for a New Year resolution: In 2016 I want to reduce the amount of chemicals I put on my skin.

Maybe you’re thinking that’s easier said than done, but you’re in for a nice surprise! There are more and more brands coming out now that offer all natural alternatives to commercial beauty products, including us! You will mostly find them stocked in health food stores and of course, that brilliant place, the World Wide Web. Start with looking for the products you use on large parts of your skin, like body wash and moisturizer. Gradually, you can replace everything in your bathroom with safer alternatives and start living chemical free!

_MG_7078.jpg

Always do your own research. Start reading articles and blogs about this topic and see what others have to say on the matter. There have been plenty of studies done and the results suggest strong cause to avoid the nasties and get back to nature! Also don’t forget to really understand the environmental impacts of the product you chose. Palm oil, for example, is something that is used in many natural products, but its environmental impact is immense.

Luckily, we have most of your skin care needs covered. We were so concerned about what we were putting on our own skin so we have come up with a natural alternative for pretty much all of your skin care needs.

Here’s some our favorite products to get your skin cleanse started:
